Accessibility at Mutual Media
What we set out to do…
This site is a fast, text-only companion to MutualMedia.net for listeners who want simple, reliable access to shows and feeds. We focused on practical accessibility—clear structure, consistent landmarks, keyboard-friendly navigation, and direct links—so people who use screen readers, large-print zoom, or high-contrast modes can browse comfortably and subscribe easily to all of MAN’s wonderful audio drama podcasts!
Key decisions & features
- Text-first layout. No decorative images; headings and lists do the heavy lifting.
- Predictable landmarks. A “Skip to main content” link at the very top, plus consistent banner, main, and side-menu regions for smooth keyboard use.
- Visibility controls. A+, A, A- font sizing and one-click High Contrast—all remembered by your browser for this site only. If things look too big or too bold on another site, that site set it; come back here and tap A or turn off High Contrast to reset our pages.
- Readable defaults. Comfortable line spacing between lines of text makes paragraphs easier to follow without crowding.
- Direct Subscriber Links. Clear separation between “subscribe in an app” vs. “listen in a browser.” We label the app option as your podcast subscription link (a URL you can paste into modern podcast apps via “Add by URL/RSS”).
- Consistent navigation. Same menus across pages; the current page is indicated for assistive technology.
- Responsive behavior. On small screens, the controls drop below the menu to avoid wrapping (or not wrapping) the text you read unpredictably and even unpleasantly.
- Performance. Text-first pages mean fast page loads.
Who benefits
- Screen reader users get predictable headings, lists, and regions—no image-only links.
- Low-vision users can increase text size and contrast without breaking page appearance.
- Older adults and cognitive load–sensitive users see fewer choices and clearer labels.
- Everyone benefits from fast page loads and straightforward links compatible with modern podcast apps.
